This airport is situated 16kms northeast of the city of Funchal on Madeira Island, the largest of the Madeira island group in the Atlantic Ocean 580kms off the northwest coast of Africa. A single, four-level terminal handles 2.3 million passengers per year. In addition to domestic flights to Lisbon and Porto (Madeira is a semi-autonomous region of Portugal).

There are regularly scheduled flights to and from major cities in the UK, France, Netherlands, Germany and Spain. Flights also link Madeira with the Canary Islands.

Airport parking at Madeira

The airport has seven car parks, including one for large vehicles and one for monthly parking only. Short-term parking in car park P1 costs €0.50 per hour. In car parks P5, P6 and P7 parking is free for the first 1½ hours. The daily rate is €2.50.

Getting to and from Madeira

Madeira Airport is located just outside the town of Santa Cruz. The island’s main city, Funchal, is a 15-minute drive to the southwest on the R101 roadway, which runs near the coast. Buses run between the airport and Funchal about every two hours. Shuttle service is also available. Taxis are available 24 hours a day for transport to locations around the island. Alternatively you can book private transfers beforehand.

Amenities at Madeira Airport

ATMs are found throughout the terminal. There is a bank and a currency exchange facility on the ground floor, and a post office on the floor above. A travel agency and a tour operator have booths in the airport as well. The duty-free shop is open from 7:00 until 23:30. Other shops at the airport specialise in Madeira wine, regional handicrafts and tobacco. Three cafés, two bars and two restaurants (both with viewing terraces overlooking the runway) offer food and refreshments. The Salão Atlantico CIP lounge on the fourth level is available for use for a fee.
